Rayonier: Clallam District Part II

RY-9050:
The RY-9050 road is located southwest of the RY-6000, off of the RY-9000 between the RY-5200 and the RY-5000. It
seems that this is one of the last areas to be logged, and may have been logged twice. As a result there was a lot of
stuff left behind when the railroad was pulled.

The pictures below are of the trestle on the first creek west of the RY-9050 road after the grade leaves the road.

The pictures below are of the trestle on the RY-9050 road just north of the grade joining the road. (7/15/05)
Short Spur:
The pictures below show a short spur that took off to the west just south of the trestle pictured above. The interesting
thing is that all of the ties, plates and spikes were left behind, some still in place, and even a rail was left behind.
Unfortunately, most of this spur was used as a new logging road for the area around it, and though I have not been
back, I am sure that the ties & plates & spikes have been destroyed. (7/15/05)
Old Camp Car Left Behind:
Jeff had heard reports of an old camp car located up on the old RY-9050 road. From what was said, this used to be a
camp car that was left behind when they were done logging. The insides of the car were also stripped out at the time,
and through the years, it had been used as a hunters' cabin, and that it was still standing. However, once we found it,
we noticed that a couple of large trees that winter had blown over smashing the cat flat. There was a large spring just
uphill from the car which made the whole area soggy. We were able to determine that it was a small rail camp car, and
Jeff had heard it had something to do with the kitchen. Since this I've also heard it called a boxcar. Anyway, we found a
few grades nearby and determined that this must have been at one time a camp. (9/15/05)

The photos below are of a return trip to the camp car with Jeff, his folks, and Jennifer. We cleared away the top part of
the car. As you can see, I even dug below the frame to see if there were indeed trucks sitting on rails, but there were
not. The water from the spring nearby kept my hole full of water. I did find though that there was nothing underneath. It
would seem that this car was taken off of its trucks and set aside. The floor itself though was very sturdy, despite being
left there for all of those years. In the photo on the far right, the door to the car is underneath the beam that Jeff's dad
has a leg up on. (8/13/05)
These were found lying in the road as far as we could drive just a little north of the camp. (9/15/05)
